Our Hear Deavenly Daughter
Bethany and I celebrated her half birthday today. We went to see “Monsters vs. Aliens” and then to Pizza Hut to use her gift certificate for a free Personal Pan Pizza that she earned for reading at school. It was so fun to spend one-on-one time with her. I just love this beautiful girl so much… let me tell you just a few reasons why.
She still starts every prayer with “Our Hear Deavenly Father.” I have tried correcting her in the past, but it is so cute and endearing that I haven’t pushed it. Her prayers are very sincere. She is thoughtful about what she is thankful for and mentions different things specifically. She also has growing testimony that she is anxious to share in family home evening, Primary, and even once in Sacrament meeting.
She is a bright girl that has such a desire to learn. She can read simple books now and Kindergarten has opened the world of writing to her as a new way to create. It’s amazing how her handwriting and the content of her writing has improved so quickly throughout the school year, but part of it is because she practices so much by choice. I often find her copying words out of non-fiction books even adult novels. She also writes in a journal and often makes cards and pictures with messages on them for other people.
She is helper and a doer. She is the one that likes to just get the job done. Before she comes down for breakfast, she is usually dressed, fixes her hair, makes her bed, and cleans her room without me even reminding. She is quick to ask “What else can I do to help, Mom?”
She is wonderful with her younger siblings. Jenna and Hyrum love to play pretend with her and tonight she calmed a fussy Ian by singing to him while I was cleaning up the kitchen.
Bethany is a sweetheart, but she also has a very independent spirit that can be frustrating to me at times. I have learned to pick my battles and our relationship has very much improved since I let her start doing her own hair and picking out her own clothes. Sometimes I cringe when I see what she comes up with, but when I see the pride in her eyes of doing things for herself, I remember that ultimately my job as a mom is teach her to be independent. She is on her way.
Bethany, I hope you know how much I love you!
