What’s in a name?

So why Ian Christopher…as many of you know we have struggled coming up with a name for this little guy right up until the week before he was born. We had a hard time agreeing on a name we liked that had significance. We always try to choose a name with meaning for each of our kids.

My sister, Lori, has been calling throughout my pregnancy with suggestions and ideas. Shortly after Christmas, she called with a new selection of names…among them was Gideon. It struck something with both Corey and I.

We had read about Gideon, the amazing Nephite patriot in the Book of Mormon recently with our other children. With him as our inspiration, we chose the last two syllables of his name for our son. In this crazy world right now with a failing economy and many politicians who are corrupt and power hungry, we need people who are willing to take a stand and do the right thing for the right reasons.

I hope that America will continue to be the blessed country that it has been throughout its history for our children, but I know that we will have to support good people to make good decisions and be good citizens ourselves for this to happen.

Of course Christopher stems from Christ.  I hope that Ian will grow up to be a humble representative of our Savior in an increasingly wicked world and that he will be one of those patriots who will be willing to take a stand and do the right thing.
